Welcome to

Brickworks & Potteries of the Ipswich Region

A site investigating the history of brickworks and potteries of the Ipswich area;

including what remains today in the form of artifacts.

Me and part of my home collection.

ABOUT ME:

For a number of years I have been researching railways and mines around Ipswich:

see my other site:  http://www.railxarchaeologyipswichqld.com

In the process of my hobby I found that the most frequent artifacts that had survived at the various sites were bricks.

After having been invited to take over the brick collection at the Ipswich Historical Society I have decided to major on the current subject.  Hence this web site.

What's New?

A Feeney’s Clay page has been added.

A Warwick Brickworks page has been added  showing how a relatively modern brickworks operates;  https://brickworksandpotteriesipswichqld.com/warwick-brickworks/

FEATURED BRICKS

I would love to know the answer to the questions below.

KILN BRICK FOUND AT THE BACK OF IPSWICH WORKSHOPS. "QGR" "34" roughly stamped on it. Who manufactured it?
A BRICK BRANDED "MASONS" "BANK". I have found several around Ipswich. Who is the manufacturer?
