History
Mervin Feeney (1914-2003) was born in Marburg, near Ipswich, Queensland. In 1931 he began as an apprentice thrower with John Ramsey.
After the closure of Ramsey’s pottery (1938) he spent a little over a year with Stones Pottery at Coorparoo, then about two years with Rylance Refractories at Dinmore.
In 1951 Feeney purchased the run-down and disused Ramsey & Son pottery works in Bundamba. In 1956 he reopened the pottery and production recommenced.
The pottery works were relocated to Wulkuraka, 10 kilometres west of Ipswich, in 1976. They are still operating today (2004) under the name of ‘J.T. Sandison & Co.’, with Mervin’s son, Mervin John Feeney, as managing director.
