Pressed Bricks

Types of Pressed Bricks

MECHANICAL EXTRUSION

The clay is mixed inside the brick press through a series of pug mills and augers and extruded through a rectangular nozzle out onto a table where the billet of clay is cut into brick.  This is usually done by wire, hence the name “wire cut”.

SEMI-DRY PRESS

Clay (or shale) is ground to powder, then a measured amount of powder mixed with water into a mould which is then compressed at least twice to form a brick.  The material is consolidated into a brick by pressure.

STIFF PLASTIC

Clay is ground to powder and mixed with some water.  It is fed into a mould in which the clot is compressed to form a brick.
